No unfortunately they're not 100% reliable.

I'm assuming that the RF triggers are the wired system? You can end up with too many wires around the area you're working.
I’m sorry about the white jacket with ties at the back. My doctor says I’ve made excellent progress and I will be released from Broadmoor on Tuesday; fancy a shoot on Wednesday!?

No,RF (Radio Frequency) triggers are wireless, but use radio waves rather then light, so tend to be more reliable. For instance, my Yongnuo triggers will work through walls and trigger a flash reliably anywhere in the house.
