I think its more cheeky when I see photographers wanting their portfolios improved and they are not willing to pay

I think its equally cheeky when I see models wanting their portfolios improved and they are not willing to pay.

Just to put a different slant on this, how many models have actually paid a photographer ("professional" or otherwise)to have their portfolios shot or up dated? Answers on a postcard I suspect.

And to all those photographers without studio premises, how often have you paid for the model, studio, make up, lunch and coffees...and supplied prints?

It is market forces and digital. It was very different in the days of film when a newbie needed a half decent looking portfolio and it was often only a pro that could get the right result.

Now with a glut of "photographers" often with no more experience or skill than the model, any girl can ask for money for getting her clothes off. Frankly the quality of the resulting image is more often in complete accord with the lacklustre appearance of the girl who apart from having a body has little else to commend them and certainly could only be described as a model because they "pose" in front of a camera.

There are of course some beautiful professional models on here but a very small % of the 4000 or so registered..pretty much the same for the togs too?

Given this site's lack of imagination to post images that stretch or challenge preferring drab cliché samey glamour it gets the clientele it deserves? And it doesn't care because it's a business, controlled by US law and it likes to make money from subscriptions. It wont be long before Purple Port or any others go the same way because the owners are in it to get paid? Take a look at what happened to Net Model..the absolute dustbin for crass soft porn images badly executed?

But how long now before we see on PS the "model" in a Santa hat and black lingerie, drably lit and a facebook pout? I am dizzy with anticipation!!

Yup..you get what you pay for

You seem to be mistaking this site for a camera club. Why do you care about other people's (good or bad) photos?

Some good photographers (even professionals) actually have some craft and don't need an experienced model, or at least relish the challenge of working with raw talent [I'm not talking about the more unsavory types who want to take advantage of new girls, some of whom are also professionals apparently]. (see Iain T for example of someone who works with new models and gets good results)

Glamour photography has always been full of 'crass soft porn images' and Santa hats. I find it best to concentrate on models and photographs which I like/admire and ignore the rest. Your view of pre-digital model photography seems rather rose-tinted, not much there that is similar to how I remember it.
Like any dealer he was watching for the card that is so high and wild he'll never need to deal another...

I agree with this.

Just lately there seems to be so much negativity on this site that it is permeating into almost every thread.

Yes, there are certain things that displease me with regard to modelling and photography.  But would I hang around the forum all day moaning on about it?  No, I concentrate on the positive and ignore the rest.

Similarly, I don't worry about or pay much attention to other photographer's images (except to post congratulatory comments when an image catches my eye).  I'm too busy working on improving my own photography.  Yes, there is a lot of cliche glamour - but there's also a lot of cliche 'fine art nude' or 'fashion'.  If it makes the photographer and models happy that's all that matters.

For the record, three of the women in my main image were 'models with no experience' and they helped me to produce better images and created a better rapport than some models who had 'many years of experience'.

Best regards
Paul

How refreshing!

I love modelling, and I also love looking at other people's work, of diverse styles and genres.

There is so much out there to inspire and enjoy.

If they didn't have any potential, they you would not be interested in shooting them in the first place. This just sounds like another rant by someone who can't get the models they want to shoot for free.

^^ Agreed !! Everyone has to start somewhere.
I am having to build my portfolio with part paid and part TFP as i was an employed photographer and not allowed to advertise my images on here ... but it is getting there slowly.

Re Purestorm: Models : no experience...paid work only ??? Are YOU serious is a better question. Why shouldn't these models be paid? Models get paid, photographers pay models, SEEMPLES! You are just one of those sleazy GWC's who thinks models should work for free because you aren't good enough to pay and have no respect for women. Go and die you Dickymint is a naughty person wit
