I think pure storm still does what it always did and at one point that suited most people.
I don't care that I can't see how many views an image has got (I wouldn't want to) because then I would end up comparing to people and wondering why my images weren't looked at as often - oh its because they are shit or because I'm not an advertising maniac.. I just want to get on with what I do and not have figures/facts and "awards". The biggest award for me is seeing a nice picture after a shoot and I don't want to get bogged down with statistics about everything.

I have joined the new website - it never hurts to be in more than one place at a time, and so far it looks pretty sweet.

I am always hugely disappointed and saddened for the management here in the disloyalty of so many who pissed off elsewhere for the most trivial reasons and small differences. Matt deserves better.
Thank you Rupert, that's good of you to say.

Another vote for Matt and Purestorm - I've been here since 2009 and I still pay and am happy to support the site. I don't shoot so much now as we are rather off the beaten track and there aren't that many models who will travel out here. But as for Purestorm - it's just a nice place.

PS not perfect, though what is... though it's the best of the few I've tried.
Though I'm not requiring models often it is still a good source of info and for the few times a year I require... a place to arrange a collaboration...

I share your pain.
Many model who will travel ask about local train stations and there just isn't the public transport network here.
(But I'm going off topic so I'll shut-up).

Definitely love it here.

Has also been lurking on here since 2009 and it's proved really good for what it is supposed to be, I also have another portfolio on another site (MCM). I am a bit concerned that many models seem to seriously cut their ties to other sites and only refer back to their portfolio on PP or promote themselves on there. Must limit some of the audience they can reach, certainly prevents some of us from hiring them. Having just been to an event that was 'PP' it was interesting discussing how I can't give them feedback unless they have a port on another site like PS or MCM. Also I think one got suspended from PP for organising the event itself, the inference that models should not cast for fellow models to attend a very organised and safe event! Which must risk their income stream if they get 'frozen out' from their one host site. Updating/ refresh of the site might be good, as it does show a commitment to a business, the banner pics, do seem slower to rotate these days... but we all have choices and mine is to stay. But must be due a social again in London to tease the PS crew out from their cave at some point

I have not known many online forums that fell in popularity and then became popular again.

Every models I spoken to said to me not to waste my time on PS looking for casting calls because they only care about the other forum.

PS is suffering the same familiar chill that blew on NM years ago. Perhaps a name change with a revamp and new ideas?

Certainly needs some new ideas - though I only say that because know it is what others want rather than me!

It's not quite the same.  I recall there were several things going on at the time it faded:

- Firstly there was a particular photographer who joined that insisted on posting GWC-style soft porn, day-in day-out and it was really dragging the site down and his arrival was the last straw for quite a few (as GWC style images had always been common on there anyway).

- There was a big fuss about former paying members getting free premium portfolios.  It was basically a bug that allowed you (say) to have a platinum account and subsequently keep all your images when you went back to a free account as long as you didn't make any image changes.  There was about 20-30 'regulars' that were doing this and my ratting them out on the forums caused a lot of disgust both from members who were paying and those who got caught out.

- The typical groupshoot crowd disappeared, who were a big part of NM's culture as it were.  It was in part due to one of the big events ending up shooting shitty GWC style porn at an English Heritage property and all hell breaking loose when the photos got onto the web (listing the property's name).  I seem to recall that EH rules were tightened as a result of this fiasco.  But above that people were annoyed that the organisers of these events had effectively ruined it for everyone else.

- There was annoyance at the site's owner to not implement new features.  People were regularly making suggestions but they weren't being listened to and this caused agro among some who took it personally.

Apart from the last one (to a degree) neither of the others are a problem here.

+1

Matt has always acted professionally in  any direct dealing s i have had with him however i dont understand your logic Rupert, this is after all a money making venture, if something comes along to challenge your business you adapt or change to compete, loyalty has no place in this! i am a member on most of the sites and some i dont even visit for months, but i have to say this is not the place it used to be, plenty of members moved from here to the other place and were the sites of equal merit ? then you 'd expect newbies drawn to the other place to hear at some point of this site and join up here too, much as most did vice versa.

I do not see that happening though , those from over there dont seem to also join up here ! so there must be a reason this site and it's general make up does not attract them, matt is probably not concerned, this will not be his major income provider i'm sure, and after all these years i doubt he has the drive to want to
change it.......and i think it does now need to change to keep up ?
the ass licking over there does leave a bad taste in the mouth though..................boom boom

It's the natural way of things............some people are happy with the status quo and don't like change

I think the quality of the banner images are, on the whole, better than they used to be. I'd hazard a guess that the images are no longer selected at random. But if that is the case then a natural consequence would be a slower rotation as the frequency of suitable images being uploaded isn't sufficient to support a fast rotation.

When I started I never took to NM for the very reason you describe - the forum there seemed disgustingly seedy to me. And I've no idea who the photographer you refer to is but I can think of one in particular who taints PP in a similar way and which causes me to wonder if it's the same person.

The criteria for membership here, for both photographers and models, is obviously more stringent than PP. I think that's been the case for some considerable time now - presumably in order to minimise the problems members encounter with other members who prove to be unsuitable for one reason or another.

Also, new models who join PS first are promptly harvested for the other site due to its referral scheme. I wonder how many members of PS, who are also members of PP, are inclined to do the reverse and encourage new models to join up here too?
