Aperture to Lightroom

I have received advice on Aperture to Lightroom switch before, but now something more specific. I have a MacBook Pro with a 500GB HD, with over 400GB of raw images in my Aperture library. I don't have enough space on the HD to install Lightroom and export the Aperture images into it so have bought another later MacBook Pro with a 2TB hard drive. However that has El Capitan as its OS system so I can not move my Aperture software to this to sit alongside Lightroom. Can I connect the two with a thunderbolt cable and transfer the images out of Aperture and across to the new computer directly into Lightroom. Theoretically I am told this is possible but no one I know has done this. Any advice would be much appreciated.

At an initial look, this looks to be the answer....

Thanks for that advice, the article plus some of the added comments were most helpful. Cheers

In a AppleStore this week and talking to an advisor who is an Aperture specialist, he advised me, despite what I had read in some places, and indeed been told in other AppleStores that Aperture, well the last version, will run and work ok using El Capitan. I downloaded it to the new MacBook from my App purchases and it works. So now all I have left to do is export my Aperture images into Lightroom.
