Stamps are due to rise at the end of the month (March) so, if you use a lot you might want to buy some before the increase

No coincidence that it happens straight after privatisation. So that will be gas, water, electricity, travel, communications, now mail, etc. Not much left to make the wealthy even richer. Oh yes, the Banks "we own" who lose millions and still pay themselves bonuses.

Shame people didn't notice this was always going to be the outcome some 30 years ago as they rushed like lemmings "to get rich "buying shares" in the start of the biggest sell off scams the UK has seen..."hissing sid" indeed!

Well many will have voted for it (and New Labour continued the love affair) so now you've got it. I hope the tax payers are delighted at the prospect of making the wealthy even richer.

Who here still believes in the lie that "profit making" private sector companies are more "efficient" than state owned...sure they are very good at getting those at the top rich and looking after their share holders at the expense of customer service. You have all been had and sadly that has dragged those in that never believed in it as well. Am I a socialist..damn right I am and proud of it!!

Well at least the RMG shares are doing well. Fortunately I don't do much posting of things.

Mail has been declining for many years, paricularly since the advent of email...these days, even my car and home insurance documents are delivered to my In-Box...all within minutes of renewals etc. Not so long ago, these would have been sent by mail.

I used to write lots of letters or send cheques etc by mail, now I rarely do this....in most cases things can be dealt with by telephone and email with the odd document scan thrown in for good measure. I've only written 4 cheques in the last 12 months - most of my distant financial transactions these days are done with a debit card and even my banking is done online so I rarely visit my local branch....everything is changing.

Looking at the amount of junk mail I receive, if it wasn't for this, I suspect quite a few 'posties' wouldn't be in a job because from my own experience, I rarely get mail that has any importance these days.

Clearly as the postal service is used less and less, the costs to those who need to use the postal service will sadly rise... I would agree that if one is a heavy user of the service then investing in stamps now before their price rises is a good way of keeping costs down and the OP's post was a welcome and timely warning.cheeky

My original post was to let members know about the forthcoming price increase in stamps in case they wanted to buy some and thus save some money. It was not intended to act as a platform for pontificating about denationalisation. I am not saying everyone isn’t entitled to their opinion on a subject but if you want to do so on the forum then start your own thread and not hi-jack an innocent one which was intended purely for information.

I totally agree with what you say. For the moaners, postage in this country is still one of the cheapest and still one of the best. As an ex postie of 16 yrs ( recently retired ) don't believe that E-mail etc is taking over, that is a load of rubbish.
