If you're shooting commercial fashion, yes.

Yeah I think it depends on the shoot,

Wrong. Great hair, make up and styling is just great hair, make up and styling.

A great shot is not the subject but what you do with it.

Id say when your sat there critiquing your own work you are absolutely right.

Can be above averagw but in terms of looking to progress to another level or working to a very high standard it needs doing.

Great doesn't have to be complicated or intricate. It could be very simple / plain or even scruffy if that is the style being used. But it still should look the part for what is needed.

For certain styles of picture, I prefer simple makeup that is not fighting for attention - but that doesn't mean it should be badly applied

Depends on the shot.  Someone with great hair and make up can be shot badly, just as a great image does not necessaily need to include a model with great hair and make up.

Its depends on what styles/genre's are needed
For me when I shoot I like my hair to be clean and in the best condition as it can be at photo shoots. Make up can be useful with MUA's depending of what styles/genre's and how creative you want to get!

I think styling can be useful for any type of Fashion, Commercial, Editorial and sometimes nice Lingerie image's. I like an opinion on what to bring a long with me at shoots, if having styling done then other possible ways of achieving this can be done!
