local facebook vigilante page forces police hand to address problem of junkies and house breaking

we have had a major increase in the number of break ins locally by junkies looking to feed their habit, some local guy starts a facebook page naming and shaming, posting pics and videos, sudenly they are being monitored by the local community with updates on their whereabouts in real time, of course it resulted in the usual lets dispose of the bastards etc (and thats it put mildly) anyway the page owner gets a visit from the police about the page which he again posted for all to hear about, and now due to about 3000 likes over a couple of days the police have had their hand forced and we have a public meeting on tuesday night with them and the local mp's at our community centre to discuss the issues.
i wonder what action we'd have had without the vigilante page ? it really is getting like the wild west around here and with no sherrifs to be seen, one junkie flashed a knife at a guy today in Morrisons  car park so the guy ran him down with his car, the cctv footage of them trying doors is first class, too desperate to even notice the security cameras.

Half the problem is that I understood that as a drug taker the law/authorities would see you as a 'victim' and so the police will not actively pursue you (and any subsequent activity can also be blamed on said drugs). Until this mentality/legal framework changes the problem will only get worse.

ha, this is getting real crazy, we now have locals patrolling the streets all through the night,(6 squads last night) watching the junkies and reporting their wherabouts on facebook, and one act of community justice delivered ! and subsequently reported (basically admitted to online )and we have the police monitoring facebook and the patrollers, while watching the junkies, they even posted a pic of the patrol car watching them 10 yards away. pretty sure this will explode into public disorder at the public meeting on tuesday. maybe take the camera down and get some shots All this in a small ex mining town
