Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd September - On Location at Windmill Arts, Linton, Cambs
For two days we are going to immerse ourselves into the world location lighting, in the wonderfully photogenic buildings and grounds of the Windmill Arts Centre, Linton, Cambs., for this exciting weekend run with top photographer Andrew Appleton.
One of the most common questions we get asked us how to get creative with lighting on location, so with this varied location, we'll have 4 models (three female and one male), 2 instructors plus a whole heap of lighting kit to try including full Pocket Wizard kits in Nikon and Canon fit.
WindmillArt is a 7 acre country retreat with a windmill with lots of interesting features in the grounds including a disused swimming pool. The windmill has no sails but has a couple of interesting rooms including a bedroom complete with 4 poster bed giving a very Rapunzel feel!
We'll start on the Saturday with a classroom session then we’ll walk the grounds looking at suitable locations paying attention to backgrounds and light. We’ll work out how to modify light to get the best shot for the mood we want to create. Then we'll split into 2 groups of 6 each working with one model in different locations and one of the two instructors helping out. After two locations the groups will swap and repeat with the other model. At the end of the day we'll have a look through everyones shots and think about how processing could enhance them.
Sunday we have two different models and different lighting equipment to try.
Throughout the weekend there will be refreshments available including a cold buffet lunch on both days.
At the end of the weekend you should be able asses ambient light both inside and an out, decide on when to work with what is available naturally and when the ambient needs supplementing with artificial light. When to use flash, when to use constant light, how and why to add modifiers, controlling the ambient and flash mix. In addition we’ll be looking at use of colour in compositions and a little bit of post processing.
