I exchange contracts on my flat on Friday. It will be the first time I've lived away from my parents or the Army.
Any top tips for moving in or horror stories to share?

Only cook while sober! Anyone on the fire service can tell you horror stories of young men rolling back from the pub, getting distracted by Match of the Day, and forgetting they've left the chip pan on... Not that I'm suggesting that you'd ever....

Don't do what my cousin did and use self-tapping screws on a gas pipe.

Find a friendly neighbour to hold a spare set of keys for when you lock yourself out.

Get a reliable removal company - my friend didn't and it caused her months of stress AND a court appearance trying to get her money refunded from a guy who didn't do a very good job and charged her more than the orginal estimate.

Good luck from one who has moved house 8 times...laugh
We once moved to a house where the gas boiler wasn't safe...so couldn't actually move in until it had been properly serviced...Oh the joys of moving...

Check out your utility bills,  and spend time on a price comparison bill.
Today I have had a disasterous time.
received electricity bill for £238-00 and a gas bill for £127-00 both were wrong.
electric was estimated and they had removed me from my contracted tariff bill was £107-00 and will be 15% less when I take them to court to put me back onto my original tariff.
Gas was a bill from july but in the same post I received a welcolming letter dated 1st December and my contract details and a 14 day cooling off period.
Still waiting to sort this one out.
But if I wasn't on top of it I would have been over £200-00 out of pocket.
