well as I live in Peterborough and surrounded by numerous counties I wondered why there isn't a combined Counties meet up / get together?
Doesn't need to be an evening or weekend as it should be about networking with a view for attracting work rather than a complete social booze up.
Would there be any interest from photographers, MUA, stylists, studio owners, models from these areas in attending if something was arranged? It is a vast area, surely we could get a good turn out with enough notice

I used to run a Lincoln one, might be starting again if I can find a suitable venue.

We are in the process of moving house, to a place of our own, and would be happy to host a BBQ in the summer for local people.

if we could do one central for all of the regions listed I am sure the number attending would make it worth going. There is nothing worse than turning up and only 8-10 others are there. If people viewed these events as a way to do some free marketing/promotion of their business / themselves then I for one would want to be there

Attendance wasn't an issue, the two I ran I think we had 20 to 30 people. the problem is getting the mix of photographers and models right.

That is true..hence another reason all counties joining together.....maybe based on a 'proper' trade show. Displays, demonstrations etc

the problem is getting the mix of photographers and models right.

That is usually the problem no matter where or when an event is, as in the main the attending photographers will be over-35 and in the bulk of potential model attendees will be under-25, so thereby not in the least interested in socialising with "old men". I have attended many regional and London meets (PS, NM & WM) over the last six or seven years and can probably count on the thumbs of one hand the events which attracted more than a token model attendance.

Having said that, I have actually met a number of pretty good models at these events over the years, and have subsequently worked with a few as a result, but I would probably have worked with them sooner or later anyway. These days I tend to watch who has indicated they might attend and then I leave it to the last minute so I can see who drops out before making the final decision on whether to go or not.

On the other hand, if the meet is flagged up as being a "party" in some second rate nightclub with the promise of 3rd Division footballers and D-List celebs in attendance and free fizzy wine for girls on the Guest List, there seems to be a better chance of attracting the fairer sex. Mind you, as they probably think they have more chance of finding husband material (or a Kiss & Tell story for the Sunday Rags) at these shindigs one can't really blame the mawdull sector of the community for shunning an evening out with old men in favour of partying into the small hours at a seedy nightclub.

I would not be particuarly interested in social...I would prefer it to be a professional networking event to introduce each other to potential work partners. Personally I know some go for a social but I am sure we all have our own set of friends for doing that. Neither is it a pick up event and think that is what probably puts a lot of models off, hence my reason for a daytime meet rather than an evening booze up?

In that case I suspect you'd possibly be better off at weekend afternoon GWC/Group Shoots as they tend to attract reasonable numbers of newish models looking to meet photographers.

not looking for newish models..any models, MUA, or studio owners would be the aim...and it isn't about models looking to meet photographers, it should be based on being mutally beneficial for everyone attending.

From many years of going to networking events if one coincides with my work/travel plans my experience is that you will get quite a few photographers and maybe the occasional MUA, but few studio owners in attendance unless the event is an open day held at their studio. You will also get a handful of established models if enough good photographers say they will be attending, plus the odd new local model who decides to be brave and introduce herself to the community.

On the other hand, somebody has to break the mould sometime, so I look forward to seeing what you manage to achieve.

If you can find a venue, and give us all a date and time, and a little bit of notice, there is a fair chance your event will be well attended.
