The idea is that song lyrics are mentioned, which mean something important to you at the time.

Perhaps they won't be accurate - but the way you think you hear them.

So for example:

Just going to stand there and watch me burn

robbie blaphemy

We could send a million to the moon
But why can’t I get on with you?
Cellophane around my mouth
Stops the anger sipping out

Words cut like a knife throughVaseline
You can’t really mean what you mean
When you say what you say
So tourettes make them come out that way,
Wish I was here well I wish you weren’t
Your gift of anger’s better burnt
If nothing’s said then nothing’s learnt
I though I wasn’t but I’m really hurting

love it have a listen

'Schooldays' by Labi Siffre. The first time I heard this was live at The West End Centre, Aldershot.

School days
I learned your dates and numbers
I learned that you were the winners
That you were civilized, and I
I was your burden

School days
I learned about your victories
The valour and the glory that was yours
And I? The heathen had to hide
'Cause God was on your side

You never told me the thief came in the night
And stole my birthright
You never told me the empire you built then
Was founded on the bodies of my murdered brethren

You taught me to despise me seen through your eyes
But now I clearly see the lies you call
your history

School days
You taught me with your movies
The red man was no man at all
He could not hold his alcohol
The black man likes to sing and dance
But does not have intelligence

School days
You said my sins would be forgiven
If truly I repented, he'd wash my sins away
(Your way) but you have not repented
You are just the same

You never told me that Jesus was a Jew
And still you swear his hair was fair
His eyes were baby blue

You taught me to despise me seen through your eyes
But now I clearly see the lies you call
your history

The audience was predominently white. At the end of the song there was an emotive hush before the applause gushed forth. The inequities and attitudes in this world that are built up and passed on as though they are fact. I still tingle and remember the emotion I felt 20 years ago.

I didn't mean it
When I said I didn't love you so
I should have held on tight
I never should've let you go
I didn't know nothing
I was stupid
I was foolish
I was lying to myself
I couldn't have fathomed that I would ever
Be without your love
Never imagined I'd be
Sitting here beside myself

'Guess I didn't know you
'Guess I didn't know me
But I thought I knew everything
I never felt
The feeling that I'm feeling
Now that I don't
Hear your voice
Or have your touch and kiss your lips
'Cause I don't have a choice
Oh, what I wouldn't give
To have you lying by my side
Right here, 'cause baby

When you left
I lost a part of me
It's still so hard to believe
Come back baby please, 'cause
We belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on
When times get rough?
Who's gonna talk to me on the phone
Till the sun comes up?
Who's gonna take your place?
There ain't nobody better
Oh baby, baby
We belong together

The line from the chorus of "Carry You Home" from James Blunt As strong as you were, tender you go. I'm watching you breathing for the last time. A song for your heart, but when it is quiet, I know what it means and I'll carry you home. After the death of my little brother

I never dreamt it'd be this way
I lost any chance for me to say
To say that I miss you, say that I love you
Will someone please tell me I'm okay

I wasn't prepared for what's to come
A life made of memories gone so young
And now I'm regretting all I've done
But in your heart you know that I'm with you all along
