THIS IS THE SMALL PRINT! I am not a moaner, but...
Chaperones. It is rare that models insist on chaperones being present at a shoot with me. But when they have, the models lack of comfort on the shoot has usually been apparent in the results. I won't say no chaperones, but they can be a distraction. I am not totally strict about them, but personally I don't think they are needed, especially not in a professionally run studio. Chaperones are very welcome to stay in the reception area of the studio- if they have one. Hopefully my feedback will reassure you that I am OK to work with- or check with any models I have worked with. If you do want to bring a chaperone, please let me know before the shoot. Please don't just turn up with one unannounced!
Pretty Please! I will do everything I can to turn up to an arranged shoot and turn up on time and I expect models to do likewise! Please do not to go out nightclubbing until 5 am (or drinking until you are sick!) the night before a shoot. Yes I have had this with models- a few times! Feeling ill or dog tired through no sleep! Even if you do actually manage to get out of bed and turn up, you will be too tired and hung over to look your best- and my aim is to make you look as good as possible! I have had lots of models arrive an hour late too! ("Sorry I was getting ready"?!)
Models who no show on studio shoots with no prior notification and no good reason, leaving me to be moaned at by a peeved studio owner, as well as out of pocket with nothing to show for it, will not impress me much! Fortunately this is rare!
Please think about your outfits. Shoes caked in dried mud don't go well with lingerie! Screwed up badly creased clothes won't look great! It's just common sense really.
ANYWAY- (congratulations if you have read this far!) I AIM FOR A FUN, RELAXED AND ENJOYABLE SHOOT! It is not like work.
Hello I'm Kevin and I look forward to working with you.
Welcome to my profile. I hope there are some pics on here that you like! No, you don't have to read all this- blah blah blah!
I live in Carshalton in the South London/ Surrey area. Hence my user name. In the past I was a professional photographer (mostly news and weddings) and I decided to try out taking model pics about 9 years ago- in order to diversify, practice my photography, stop my cameras gathering dust, try to keep my skills sharp and (most important!) have some fun. I do not make any money out of photography these days. I just spend money on it! I have done about 70 model shoots so far, with around 24 different models. I prefer to work outdoors. English weather permitting!
In no particular order (and whether you are interested or not!) to give you an idea of my photographic taste, "famous" photographers whose work I like and admire include Bill Brandt, Ernst Haas, Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Martin Parr, Bill Cunningham and Walker Evans. (None are on Purestorm, but then, only Martin and Bill are still alive!) And one I least like- Diane Arbus. Ugh!
I mainly work with semi-professional models with some experience. I usually pay around £25 to £30 ph and work to a mild glamour level. I am not great at fashion photography, but I want to do some to try to improve! £40 ph and £50 ph models are unfortunately out of my league. I do not shoot nude or "top shelf" or stronger. You will not only get paid, you will also get emailed as many photos as you want for your portfolio. I expect to pay for models. Few things in life are free!
Ideally I would also like to work with some very pleasant attractive photogenic models who are aged over 35. Sadly there are not enough around! I am also always keen to photograph biker chicks with their bikes.
If you are a beginner model and look good, you're building a portfolio and you are interested in a FTP shoot, please contact me.
When I was a professional photographer (1995-8, in the era of film, not digital) I often worked with famous people. I was once filmed for 2 hours on a shoot by BBC2. (Edited down to about 3 minutes!) I did not work with models, but I had to make important people look their best.
THIS IS A MINIMAL EDITING- MINIMAL AIRBRUSHING - NO PHOTOSHOP ZONE! I believe photos should be captured by a camera and not created on a computer. I aim for getting it right first time. I do amend colours and exposures if I get them wrong, and I do use sharpening if pics come out of the camera soft, but most of my images are untouched. If you insist on always looking flawless and overedited, and want to look like a barbie doll, then I am probably not the photographer for you!
