Hi. I’m Paul Thompson and live in Portchester, situated between Portsmouth and Fareham in Hampshire, now turned Sixty but still a big kid at heart. I’ve been into photography since about the age of nine and covered most aspects; portraiture, studio, darkroom, landscapes, weddings, glamour, public relations, technical etc, but really take greatest pleasure in my studio work as I love portraiture. I'm very passionate about black & white portraits and head & shoulder shots. In a previous life I think I was probably a failed artist; given the chance I body-paint my subject, although I'm possibly better with a camera than a brush. I enjoy location work and the use of natural light
I spent almost Twenty Four years in the RAF and am very well travelled, living and working overseas in various locations. My sports included Judo, Athletics, Mountaineering and Sailing.
I'm now using Nikon digital equipment as well as some film. I believe that “editing” should be in camera; but will also edit some images after a shoot; anything that I could do in a darkroom and can do on a PC being acceptable to me. I like to think I’m a photographer and not some computer “geek” playing god and trying to improve on nature. I also believe that the art of photography is to capture an accurate likeness of the subject matter. A scenes of crime / forensic photographer, war correspondent / conflict photographer all seek perfection by not altering an image, showing what is in front of them, yet in glamour, it now seems to be the "norm" to change the subject completely to suit the person capturing that image! I don't "Photoshop" an image neither do I work in "Raw", currently with digital all I do is in JPEG format and very little editing!
I like working with new models who are looking to expand their portfolio and gain modelling experience, I get to work with someone fresh and a little unsure, almost like a blank canvas to the artist. The model gains in experience, images for their portfolio and all costs are covered, unlike most I welcome chaperone's, friends / family to the shoot. It is very rare for me to only work with a model just once, most come back times over. Laughter is a universal language, have fun on a shoot and the images will speak for themselves!
TFCD / TFImages:
Unlike a lot of photographers, I believe that if the model is offering TFCD, gives 100% effort, then they are entitled to a copy of ALL the images taken on the shoot. As previously mentioned, I don't "Photoshop", so at the end of a TFCD shoot and after a basic edit, I will download all images at low definition there and then for the model to take with them or will post / email as requested. These images can be used by the model as they wish, however the intention is to select images for full editing, their choice, but they are not to be sold and the copyright remains with me.
Body paint / Body art:
Whilst I'm happy to undertake a body paint / art shoot on TFCD basis, if it is your back you want painting, ok by me but please bear in mind that it will be the paint job itself rather than your modelling skills that will be on show. Whilst a back gives me a large surface area to work on, it is not easy to use a back image to show the models full potential.
If I agree to a paid shoot, I would expect the model to work to at least topless levels, I don't do implied / swimwear / lingerie on a paid shoot, but am willing to shoot these levels on a TFCD basis (not paid)
Thank you for getting this far
