I should have read this before I posted :-P

<qt>

Lift HEAVY weights. As heavy as you can manage. Train like your boyfriend says. To look "toned" you want to put on muscle.

You WILL NOT put on massive amounts of muscle, as a woman you do not produce much testosterone. It would take years and years and years of VERY hard and VERY specialist training to look "big" or "muscular" as a female.

Lifting heavy weights also has massive health benefits such as helping to prevent the onset of problems such as osteoporosis - you won't regret it!

</qt>

I would advise you to take your boyfriend advice because even though he may have mass muscle you wont as women's bodies dont provide enough testosterone for us to build mass muscle easily. Follow the routine he advises you on for 6 weeks and then adapt your own routine from that one. It takes months/years to build mas muscle. I promise you wont look like a mini body building :-)

<qt>

Hey,

Well i'm a UK size 8 so i'm not bothered so much about losing weight, i know how to do that (stop eating chocolate!!!!!), but as i have just turned 18 I'd like to start doing some swimwear and lingerie shoots, even in fashion there will be times when alot of my body is exposed and it's just not as toned up as it should be (for a model).

I've tried just generally going to the gym, my boyfriend has been helping me but what with him being a guy and all he only knows how to build up muscles and i really don't want huge biceps or a 6 pack! I also started doing yoga as i know this helps your posture, balance and flexibility and so aid posing but i haven't noticed any change to my body definition.

So my question is, aimed at other fashion models and lingerie models, what are the best exercises for toning up the stomach?

And also I'd like to lose a couple of inches from my thighs and maybe an inch off the tops of my arms, how can you do this through exercise to make sure it comes off of those specific areas? Because if i just diet there's no guarantees of where the weight is going to come off!

Really grateful of any help anyone can give me !

Vicky x</qt>

You could get an exercise DVD - there are lots out there, and it's cheaper than going to the gym. Davina McCall DVDs are amazing for toning!

Resistance till failure is a fab way to tone up, basically work your muscle till its shaking and about to fail!! ever done squats...and i dont mean like 10 and walk away do it till your but and legs shake due tot he strain the burn is good!!! you should work till you feel your muscles are literally on fire! however if it is a intense pain or sudden stabbing pain STOP!

you can life heavy weights but remeber big wait low reps or you can do low weight high reps, basically aslong as you work that muscle to near on failure you will tone up regardless of which method you use hun.

Toning however requires you to strip the fat on top of the muscle, THIS is the hardest part, theres no pint having lean biceps under a inch of fat it wont look as good. You need to look at your diet you nead lean meat like chicken and fish, dramtically cut sugars and fat, DO NOT however completely cut out these from your diet they are a requirement!!

I really bulked out when doing weights and endurance training (went up to a size 12) but it varies from person to person. Now I do swimming, exercise bike on a low gear, squats to keep my thigh/bum area toned and walking/hiking. I haven't managed to tone up much yet but admittedly haven't been back into the exercise regime for that long. Oh and stomach crunches for the stomach but you'd need to be doing a lot of cardio at the same time so what little body fat you have doesn't sit on top of the muscles, making you look bigger.
