How does that differ in principle to all those old stickers on enprints which said something like 'your rubbish prints are terrible because your negatives are rubbish' ? And surely there isn't any real difference to most third parties between mediocre photographs and awful photographs. Neither are really worth anything to anyone apart from the photographer (and sometimes the subject)..... and never have been.
Like any dealer he was watching for the card that is so high and wild he'll never need to deal another...
