| Star_Shots Photographer Location United Kingdom Northumberland Blyth | Does anyone have any experience with this device. Seems to be the most comprehensive unit on the market but is expensive. I see other home made devices on ebay etc but not sure if you get what you pay for ? |

| Photoimager Photographer Location United Kingdom Staffordshire Stoke-on-Trent | I've not used a StopShot device but I have used a +1 Many speedlights have a strobe mode but most people do not use them in that mode and are not therefore using a strobe. Often labelled as a 'repeating flash' function where you set the frequency and the number of flashes and you also often have some option over the manual setting of the power output. Off thread: No need to apologise Henry, if everyone used the correct and accurate langauge it would be easier to understand what is being said. Some people don't seem to realise where the term strobe comes from or what it actually refers to. Maybe they should try talking to a scientist about being a strobist !. The word originated from the Greek strobos, meaning "act of whirling." Discs with slots can be used as a strobe. |

| Photoflash Photographer Location United Kingdom Hertfordshire Watford | I have made fast duration flash units but you need at least 1000V to get a fast duration. The flash durations quoted by elinca and bowens are totally false as they only measure part of the flash. The DIN system I think, was invented by hensel. It allows for measuring the first 50% of the flash (very fast rise time) and ignoring the rest. (quite slow decay) The photographer is stuck with using the full flash duration. By rewiring Strobe heads it was possible to get a fast duration but Strobe is now totally obsolete, and not exactly portable! Courtenay made a fast flash called the Microflash which had a millionth of a second duration. It was OK on film (A bit blue) but I tried a Canon digital camera, and it would not record an image. The flash was too fast for it. The microflash worked on 10,000v. They are still in use by hospitals for photographing bacteria, which apparently move very fast. It is possible to cut off a flash by using a GTO, (gate turnoff thyristor) but as they cost around £900 I have only ever made a couple of units. |

| JeromeRazoir Photographer Location United Kingdom Devon Crediton | No experience with the StopShot, apart from looking at it on Cognisys' website. I do though have their automatic close up train fro shooting multiple images of a tiny subject for stacking. The build quality is very good and they were very nice and very prompt in correcting a minor problem with my delivery. (They sent the wrong camera synch lead and sent a free replacement in a couple of days) Do not forget the Customs fees and the Post Office £8 fee for collecting it.That adds quite a bit and needs to be budgeted in. So while I can not endorse the specific product, I do endorse the company. You can buy from a German distributor but I worked out that would cost more. |
