I've recently been fascinated with how members started in their particular field?
To be more specific, how your field turned from a hobby in to a career?

Really would love to hear how it started for you?

Well I was pure ugly in school lol and bullied real bad. But my mother always told me the ugly duckling always turns into the beautiful swan. So once the bad phase had gone I realy wanted my revenge on the ( pretty girl's) and looked hard to get into modeling and the goal started there and now modeling has become a desire! I need to work as a model as it's the only enjoyable thing I've come across in life that I'm willing to work hard for... Now revenge is the last thing on my mind and success to makeing it a full time career is my new drive!

Got into bomb disposal, spent a lot of time being confined to within 15 mins of my base in London whilst on duty. Thought I'd take advantage of the huge number of the models in the area. Luckily my "bomb phone" never rang whilst I was on a shoot.

I've had like a kazillion and one careers I started off as a cellist when I was 14-15 playing for small orchestras (my cello tutor and music teacher pushed me into it was fun but wasn't fully satisfied. Then started working at a stables as a stable hand needless to say that job stank (I love horses and I've always had them but I couldn't do it for a job) I then got into body refinishing as my dad owns a garage and I'd always loved cars and the car scene consequently I then got into mechanics did that until I was 18 moved on into a specialist field of body refinishing and started air brushing and graphic design working for the UK's top air brush artist (who was a complete knob) sued him for a load of money. 2 years ago started graphic design at college photography was part of the course so it stemed from that, started really concentrating on photography last September as I decided I wanted to go to uni to study photography. Now since 28 June this year im officially working and earning as a photographer working for myself and im loving it. And im only 22 lol

Military for me too..... I was 19 and joined a submarine, made the mistake of addmitting I like to do photography & film work, so they told me I had to operate the camera on the periscope so sent me on the course. Enjoyed it and had access to some good gear so made use of it. Being on a submarine they was always a lot of printed porn around and I but 2+2 together and gave that a go too.

I went on to do wedding photography (the miltary side of that meant I was not shy to tell people what to do - where to stand etc).

Another military man here, but I was a photographer first. Got permission to use the darkroom at my unit, then began assisting the unit photographer all over the World. Took over his job when he left the forces. I left the force some time later and moved into IT, keeping photography as a hobby. Now contracting in IT and doing some photography on the side.

1994, I was at Uni, the Internet was just beginning (at a consumer level anyway), I went on IRC and chatted to people all over the world. I was fascinated at how the Internet would become a global communication tool, and I started learning HTML and decided I wanted a career in building websites/ web applications. I finished uni in 1999 and pursued a career in Web Development and have been doing it since.
