| gerryquiff Photographer Location United Kingdom Lanarkshire Bonnie Scotland | You don't necessary have to book well in advance. A quick google search of 'cheap train fares' gets you 3 reliable site where there are money saving options for rail travel. My internet booked journey to Edinburgh by train was under £8 return yesterday, or I could have opted for the standard £16.10 at the station. |

Do some digging yourself rather than expecting the station operator to find your bargain. |

| designerhugh Photographer Location United Kingdom Hampshire | It works as long as you don't have to use several train companies and cross London. If you want to go from Southampton to Scotland via London you may be able to book seats on Virgin in advance but because South West Trains special offers don't connect with your time of arrival departure in London it can work out cheaper to get the old style saver ticket. From Southampton it is cheaper to go using Southern trains to London than South West Trains except the journey takes much longer and goes into Victoria |

| Dani-Elle Model Location United Kingdom West Yorkshire Leeds (can travel) | A 1 minute check online for train information is the first thing I do even before a potential shoot is confirmed. I get my means of travel sorted as soon as I can for organisation. Generally the more advance = the cheaper the ticket however in some cases I have noticed prices can fluctuate. | |

| Tansy_Blue Model Location United Kingdom London Harrow | It's not hard and I do it all the time. Only issue is when the shoot's cancelled after you've bought the tickets; I lost about £50 in a month when I was new to modelling because of this - that's a lot considering I was barely earning from modelling at the time. These days I send an email the week before saying "it's nearly shoot time, I book tickets in advance to keep costs down, don't have a cancellation fee but do ask for train ticket to be reimbursed if the shoot is cancelled after I've bought the ticket, is this okay?". So far it's always been okay. Rail fares can be insane though...sometimes cheaper to get a return than a single. Why? Once I booked a trade shoot and the offpeak fare was £30, which I don't mind paying for good pictures; but I didn't realise I was travelling in peak time and the fare came to £105. =/ Managed to change the start time thank god... Peak time is really annoying. Different stations have different peak times and some don't have a peak time at all; others have a morning and an evening peak, others only a morning; it's not always clear which rules apply to that particular station and it drives me bonkers. Thank god I passed my driving test hey. |
