| IainT Photographer Location United Kingdom Bedfordshire | I hardly ever use public transport, so I'm not that familiar with charges, although I know its cheaper in advance However I need to go to Leeds by train tomorrow, but only found out today. I was shocked by the cost of the ticket...£80, but thought oh well, I'll have to stump up..as its tomorrow However, I went online and even the day before got it for £5.00...yes £5.00 I've been aware for a while about how much you can save if you book in advance/have a young persons rail card...but also surprised at how many models dont do it, even though the shoot is booked weeks in advance. I dont pay models travel...on the grounds that where they are based in relation to me, is their problem, not mine...I offer an all inclussive fee...so you...or I... would think it would pay models to get tickets as cheaply as possible...but no, most dont seem to bother and then moan that they have just paid out a third of their fee on a train ticket... I've even had models cancel because they found out a train ticket was going to cost them over £100 because they left it until the last minute... |

| twentytwenty Photographer This member has been reset to pending | Iain, be careful when booking train fares. I just tried to book for Perth via Glasgow. from Lochwinnoch where I live the Return fare is £33. But if I go from the village to Glasgow the return fare is £5:40. then buy a return ticket to Perth its £16:30. Which is mental. If you have to change trains check to see if its cheaper buying individual tickets. a model pointed this out. |

| MichelleHush Model Location United Kingdom South Yorkshire sheffield | when i know i have a shoot in advance and im traveling a fair distance i always check online and see what offers i can get it just makes sense realy and for me its all about preperation. I guess the only thing that may put models off is buying tickets in advance only for the shoot to get canceled (which i know with you iain they would have no need to worry about that) this has only happened to me twice in my whole 8years of modeling and it was in my early days , i baught a ticket to liverpool, and one to cheltenham spa for them to be canceled , however im still happy to buy tickets online in advance it just makes sense to me . |

| Jenelle_James Model Location United Kingdom Lancashire BURNLEY | there are no excuses and you are right advanced tickets are cheaper and with some digging on other sites you can get tickets for as cheap as you have just done, for future reference i checked a while back for trains to london, normally its like 60 quid, in advance i may be able to get it at around 40 quid, all this of course through national rail, with some diggin i got quoted 6 quid lol so it is very possible |

| fizzy Model Location United Kingdom Tyne and Wear Newcastle upon Tyne | Yeah, same reason as above. Sometimes I'm hesitant to book rail fares in advance in case the shoot doesn't happen. I must have lost at least a couple of grand thanks to cancellations over the years and there are no refunds on advance purchase tickets. | |

It's called "tickety split", it tells you if buying two or more tickets will get you to your destination more cheaply. Most of the time you don't even have to get off the train. (Although some jobsworth guards have made people get off and get back on.) As for the general point, I've always said travel expenses will be met upto the cost of a cheap ticket bought in advanced. From checking myself and experience, I know London to me can be done in under £50, but some don't bother, just turn up on the morning and find out the ticket will be £120 or more. I've had numerous no-shows and cancellations due to this lack of preperation. |

| w4pictures Photographer Location United Kingdom London Chiswick | Its not difficult but I can think of a dozen reasons why its often not appropriate, not least of which are restrictions imposed on cheap tickets about where and when and the raft of extras charged to make up the low initial cost. I'm still working on the jetcopter. |

You would think that if a model had pre-booked travel and the photographer had to cancel, he/she would compensate the model, (I certainly would) but obviously this is not always the case. |
