| TonyS Photographer Location United Kingdom West Sussex Shoreham By Sea | I understand that quality aint gonna match D3, but I`ve had camera's in the past that could not cope with anything above ISO400, I`m hoping them days are gone. Si - you not troubled by start up time, shutter lag?!? Seen some moans online about this. Meh!! Bloody SD cards, I`ve got multiple Gigs of CF cards hanging around :/ |

| anthonyh Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex | If you are into landscape etc you might want to check out the Canon G1X....now dropping in price as well. By all reports it gives superb image quality...and nicely made as well....I have handled one. The Fuji X10 has a good reputation as well....try Google for reviews and current prices. |

Si - you not troubled by start up time, shutter lag?!? Seen some moans online about this. Meh!! Bloody SD cards, I`ve got multiple Gigs of CF cards hanging around :/ Startup time... Take lens cap off, twist barrel to turn on, it seems ready to go at that point, if I was shooting something that required an instant response, I'd leave it turned on and ready. AF is pretty quick and once acquired, fire time seems instant. Many use it in manual zone focussing mode where fire is instant. I'm pleased with it, I did some test shots on the last model shoot and it worked fine, a bit noisy as I was at iso1600 but printable at 10x8. It's also a nice noise in B&W.. Lightroom doesn't make the best of the raw files yet the jogs are better in the luminosity side but I'm not a fan of fuji colours so tend to use the rows and calibrate. |

| alexcrawford Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex Chelmsford | i accompanied a friend who purchased a canon digital compact for £99 refurbished. i cannot for the life of me think of a camera that'll be so cost efficient. 14x zoom, huge megapixel count, and the results look stunning. shoots raw, doesnt have a shoe, but for 99 what on earth would one expect ? i'm green with envy, but because of the g11 i just cannot justify having yet another pocketable image making machine. it'll probably be absolutely fine for 10x8 prints, and certainly well over spec for web presentation of photographs. video too. hdmi output too. ugh, i feel sick. £99 quid at camera world in chelmsford, but they are running out fast... tell 'em alex sent you ! (they'll charge you more). |

| w4pictures Photographer Location United Kingdom London Chiswick | Also, is the X10's battery interchangable? Apprently its quite small. Yes. Spare batts and chargers available for peanuts. Battery seems to last reasonably well despite the reports. |

| HowardJ Photographer Location United Kingdom Surrey | How about a Canon G1X http://www.dpreview.com/products/canon/compacts/canon_g1x ? Shoots RAW and many professional photographers carry one around in their pocket in case an opportunity for a good shot arises. It takes the Canon range of flashguns from DSLRS. |

| TonyS Photographer Location United Kingdom West Sussex Shoreham By Sea | Thanks for everyone input
Has kept me busy the last few days researching!!
So, choices now are as follows...
Fuji X10
Nikon 1
Canon G1X <-- current fave!
Canon G12
It seems the perfect compact has yet to be made, all of them are really good, all of them miss out something or other.
Pricing seems all over the place too.
Still open to suggestions on platforms! |

| anthonyh Photographer Location United Kingdom Essex | I guess you should specify what you will use it for...a take anywhere casual point and shoot will be a different proposition to the G1X for example....which seems almost designed for street and landscape work. I have the G10.....metal construction.....great IQ at ISO 100 (200 just)...but fully featured and easy to pocket. Cheapish s/h. When the G1X drops to £400 I will get one to supplement my G10. £459 is where they are just now. |
