I have to stress that every person is different and different things can cause kidney stones in different people. The best thing you can do for yourself is get referred to a urologist and get some test done to determine what is the root cause for you to have kidney stones in you. A GP can't tell you anything, but recite what is on the NHS website.

Kidney Stones can cause some very serious damage to your insides and can lead to permanent health issues down the line. So don't mess about with this. And yes I am talking from experience here.

Thank you so much everybody for the advice I'm surprised at how many people suffer from them! It truly is the most unbearable pain I have ever felt in my life - I have not been through childbirth yet but I'm assuming it won't be as bad as the pain I felt!

I have an appoimtment with a Kidney specialist, the same one who deals with my Mum who's had them since being 21, in a few weeks so hopefully they'll be able to tell me more and do more.

For now I'm laid up with tons of painkillers drinking tons of water and finding it very hard to go to the toilet feeling very sorry for myself haha! Hope I never have them again, but it seems likely I will seen as my Mum and Nanna have siffered for most of their lives

I had one once and it felt like someone had stuck a knife in my side and was slowly twisting it. I ended up shaking and having cold sweats with the pain. I eventually went to the doctor and he told me if I'd gone to see him sooner he'd have put me in hospital. In the process of x-raying me he decided I had cancer and off I went to the operating theatre for emergency surgery. Two months of worrying later he decided I didn't. They never did find the kidney stone though. I now don't go to doctors as they haven't got a clue!

I've had one bout since caused by not drinking enough while taking lemsip for a cold drinking lots of water for 24 hrs sorted that out though and it seems to have done the trick.

Fortunately the ops can be done using keyhole surgery and you can be out in an hour or two.
