My little Peugeot is going to have to go on ebay for spares as it going to cost £800 to pass the MOT and be roadworthy ( it needs a new waterpump) but being over 10 years old its not worth it. So looking for something cheap to replace it. From ebay with a MOT
I quite fancy a convertible but I need 5 seats to get the kids to school and most have 4 . I have seen old ford escorts on ebay that have 5 seats but just wondered if there are any other options. There have been a few of these but too far away or with fabric seats and my husband thinks it s more sensible to have leather seats incase it starts raining while drving.

The annoying thing is nobody seems to think its relavant to mention how many seats cars have on ebay and I have sent questions to lots of people. One got quite shirty saying all ford escorts had 3 back seats which does not appear to true.I'm just talking about having a center lap belt as I have child seat that will fit it.

Can anyone suggest anything as its a pain driving the minibus everywhre.

I'm not sure that Escorts have ISOFIX points, I think you might struggle there - the middle seat is pretty much a token gesture with the lapbelt

From owning convertibles over the years the trick is to keep moving when it's raining, over 40mph seems to do the trick as the rain doesnt get into the cabin too much. But having said that, I dont know many convertibles large enough for 5 that'd be under a grand

Suppose one of them Frontera Sports could be an option, you kind of have to leave the roof at home though once it's off

You need a 5dr hatch back, Simply for ease of getting kids in and out. 99.9% of cars have a centre lap belt these days.
If you want quality and reliability I would recommend a German vehicle - VW, Audi, BMW or Mercedes. The Mercedes A Class 1.7 Deisel might be the right car for you? But really its all about your own personal preference eh? Forget about the convertible unless its going to be a second car.

Almost forgot to mention, If it does not appear to have a centre lap belt try lifting the seat, alot of times people tuck them away.

Just your 'cup of tea'

Maybe have to be a second  hand one though as not sure if they are still manufactured. ??

Good point if any are near enough I would.

Lapbelt on the peugeot holds the childseat fine and 5 year old can squeeze into that for another year and its just 30 miles an hour around the town anyway. Yes I suppose going to two doors would be a pain.
Did look into getting something new with the scrapage scheme but the deals were not that good. Now the car failed the MOT it can't be traded in.ooked at Micra but read some bad reviews on them.

Husband thinks keeping three cars is extravagant ( we were given the peugeot) but he doesn't have to park the minibus in the high street. Also he borrows mine for work  when his Rover gets yet another mysterious fault. He must of replaced practically everything.

Maybe I'll just get a 2 seater for when they are all at school.
Going to keep the minibus for a few more years untill we can cope with an 8 seater and then the back to the Toyota townace which was great. I like the savanna we had before that which was 7 seats but it was long.

No thanks Nick I think I'd rather have this one if you'll lend me 5 grand.

But for you I would also give serious consideration to TFP

Stopped being manufactured years ago.. They were originally made by the AC car company of sports car fame, based on a three wheeler they made from the early 1950's called the AC Petite. Original one had a motor bike kick start under the bonnet as they were powered by the widely used Villiers 197cc motor bike engine.  As was another three wheeler called the Bond Minicar.

Sorry.... I used???? to be a car Geek

If you NEED to have a convertable you are going to have to spend a fair bit of money or run the risk of buying cheep and having high maintainance costs.
Most modern cars have 3 seatbelts in the back. The centre one tends to be just a lap belt which does, as has been said, get tucked under the seat.
Ford escort did not have Isofix. That system was implemented on cars after 2004 I think.
What do I know about photography..... I'm a mechanic.

Excellent choice of marque, but if you're after a cheap two seater, go for an F instead. You can pick one up for around a grand, and they are a much more comfortable ride than the TF, which feels like a shopping trolley on cobbles!
