My suggestion was a way to climb a learning curve to find what kind of physical composition works for any particular tog, and not a way to approach photography as a long term strategy. If a dancer has a particularly hard set of moves, they practice those moves over and over again. My advice was akin to this. I totally agree that lighting is also a fundamental part of the image, and my suggestion to not worry about lighting again was specifically to allow focus on physical composition, which is what I thought the OP wanted advice about. I was not suggesting that togs should not worry about lighting at all because it can be fixed in PS, merely suggesting that there are more ways to adjust lighting in an image than it is to fix poor physical composition. After all, it would be extremely difficult, having taken a photo of a bowl of fruit, to adjust the image so that the viewpoint is slightly lower down, or to move the banana to the other side of the fruit bowl. However, I could brighten/darken the image, use gradients, filters, burn and dodge tools to modify or enhance the brightness/contrast/saturation and colour of the image in many different ways. Surely practice is the mother of skill, and in practicing in this way I feel that I have a much better eye for composition than I did a few years back. |
